Breather II manual reset SVRS

Manual reset with a release chain, for suction lift installations only. Center or offset port, standard or adjustable.

Where a manual reset belongs

The Breather II is built for suction lift installations only. In a suction lift layout the pump sits above the water level, and that is the layout this line is catalogued for: manual reset, a center or offset port, and a release chain.

Vacless lists no submerged suction use for any Breather II model. If the pump is fed by submerged suction, the catalog points to the Breather I (automatic reset) and the Breather III (electronic pump shut-off), which are both listed for suction lift or submerged suction installations.

All four Breather II models are designed for pumps from 0.5 to 10.0 horsepower, on hot tubs, spas, fountains, wading pools and residential or commercial pools.

What happens after the seal trips

When something blocks a suction outlet, the centrifugal pump pulls a high vacuum at its inlet port. That vacuum displaces the sealing element, air flows through the air channels into the pump suction side, the pump loses prime, and the entrapment is released.

The seal is an orthogonal system: a rubber o-ring mounted on a moving disc, set up for dual face and radial sealing. The face sealing blocks atmospheric air from entering the pump during normal operation. The radial sealing governs the seal travel until it releases air into the pump pot.

Here the Breather II parts company with the automatic line. After it opens, it stays open until it is reset with its release chain. The point of a manual reset is that a person goes to the pump, and to the pool, before the system runs again.

Choosing a model, then fitting it

SVRS-20 is the standard model with a center port and SVRS-21 the standard model with an offset port. SVRS-20ADJ and SVRS-21ADJ are the adjustable versions, which Vacless says adjust to existing pool piping configurations and are compliance tested up to 200 feet.

Fitting takes no tools. Remove the existing pump drain plug and hand screw the Breather valve into the pump drain plug port in its place. Vacless puts the job at less than 5 minutes. To winterize, take the SVRS out until all of the water in the pump has drained.

Every Breather II carries a 3 year warranty, registered with the installer, the customer and the commissioning date. Use it always with an approved anti-entrapment drain cover. Nothing replaces parental supervision, and several layers of protection are the best way to prevent main drain entrapment.
